Miles got a lollipop in his Halloween bucket that was candy mounted atop of a plastic leg and foot skeleton. I think Ron ate the lollipop off of it and left the “stick” on his desk. We noticed Miles playing with it this morning near Kai. After I took Miles to school, I went home and changed Kai. Imagine my surprise when I opened up his diaper and found the leg bone making an indentation in his tiny little buttock! A place for everything and everything in its place.

Things are really getting back on track. Everyone’s feeling better and last night we all had the best sleep since Kai arrived. Very timely, because Halloween is one of my favorite days, for the spooky angle and because it kicks off the holidays.
Miles co-opted one of my Stuey tricks this morning, but with Kai. If I’m trying to gain consensus for something, I will ask a question aloud and answer for Stuey. In most cases Stu sides with me, and that immediately gives me a majority vote. Miles did the same trick–I think he asked if Kai thought Miles should be able to bring his fire truck into school. Kai, naturally, said “yes!”
Miles had a great little parade at his school this morning. More photos soon of the parade and trick-or-treating. We’re giving out gummy eyes this year–come by!

I think this was one of the hardest decisions we have had to make lately…but we went ahead and did it..We had Miles’ hair cut. Really short. Ron got his hair cut really short last week, so Miles was kind of in to the whole idea. His hair was looking really cute. It was about 5-6 inches long over his head. I had been twisting it, but the level of maintenance was extremely high. It was requiring me to sit with him for about 2 hours every other weekend to twist it, plus about 10 minutes a day for moisturizing and more for washing and styling. This degree of work is just not easy with a three year old active little man and another one on the way. Plus, some of his twists began to lock up in the back in to very skinny locs that couldn’t be combed through. We decided to just cut it off and start over.
We went to the barber shop and they took out the clippers and just buzzed his little ‘fro right off. It was so hard to see all of his beautiful little curls all over the floor. He was pretty scared of the whole thing at first, but got more comfortable while daddy held him on his lao in the chair. When we brought him out to the car he and Ron looked in the mirror together at their very short hair, and Miles was quite pleased with his look. I broke down crying, of course. He just looks so grown up. And very handsome. And he has a perfect little round head. I think he was born with more hair than he has right now!
We then went out as a family to have a scoop of ice cream. As the three of us sat there talking and sharing our flavors, it dawned on me that this would be the last time we would do something like this as a family of three. Again with the crying!

We are trying to organize lots of stuff before the new kid gets here, so we went to Ikea to get some storage containers for Miles’ room. We ate lunch there first. Miles had macaroni and cheese, but wanted to try my chicken. I shared several bites with him. While he was eating, Jessica asked me how the chicken was. I said, “It’s okay. A little dry–it’s all white breast meat.”
Miles chimed in, “I’m breastfeeding, too!”
