The Ochiki-Smiths

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Jessica was explaining to Miles that a brother is a boy and a sister is a girl. She asked if he’d like a brother or a sister and what their names might be.

jess: What would be a brother’s name?

miles: Procolat Ochiki.

j: What would be a sister’s name?

m: Chocolat Ochiki.

Sorry, Porter and Powder.

Miles, NY

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Jessica, Miles and I are on a plane with half an hour or so until we touch down. Miles has slept the whole flight, so even if he wakes up now in grump mode, we still come out ahead.

We had a great trip. We stayed with Jess’s Aunt Nancy for two nights and at Hotel Bela-something for two nights.

Nancy was very warm and really hooked us up with great food, a great room, and great company. Miles bonded with her immediately and invited her to join him on the floor, where he was working with trains. Miles also got to meet his new-ish cousin, Aaron.

We tried to do as many Miles-friendly things as we could without wearing everyone out. Most of the fun stuff involved trains. We rode the subway and a commuter line. We saw fantastic miniature train installations at the transit museum store and the New York Botanical Gardens. Miles was the most enthusiastic kid in a 75-mile radius, completely unhinged with train-happiness.

Miles did a great job during the whole trip. He got bored a few times and over-tired a few times, but he always bounced back. He rode the subway at rush hour like a champ.

We may have had pizza once or twice.

Happy Thanksgiving

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

We just got back from a special holiday week at Miles’ cousin Joshie’s house.

Miles had a great time being Joshua’s shadow. If Josh did it, Miles did it… every move, word, laugh, snack. Josh was a very good sport, being very patient and careful. A little adulation never hurt anyone.

Jenifer and Larry made us very welcome and comfortable. Thanksgiving dinner was fantastic. Larry even accomodated my “allergy” with an extra batch of onion-free stuffing.

The flights there and back (Miles’ 11th and 12th flights!) were great. Thanks to the Woods/Wenzels for taking care of Stuart C. Wagner!

Cousin Head

Saturday, June 10th, 2006

Jared and MilesCousin Jared, aka “Head” and “the Head,” came for a visit. We had a great time. We worked on a new animation, ate lots of trash, had some great discussions about organic food and aliens, went swimming and played some miniature golf (indoor, naturally).

Miles shadowed him the whole week and looked for Jared a few times after he went home.
