He knows what he wants

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

img_4568.JPGThis morning, I asked Miles if he wanted a banana. I had already prepared him 2 different breakfasts, each of which he said he wanted and then rejected (a waffle with strawberries and then eggs), so the banana was my last-ditch effort to get some food in to him before school.

Mommy: “Do you want a banana?”

Miles: “Yes. To go.”

I handed one to him.

“No Mommy, not the green one, I want a yellow one.”

Apparently the one I gave him wasn’t ripe enough. I can’t get anything by him anymore!

Isn’t 2 great?!

Grown-upsters

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

This morning Miles told me that I could not take away the flashlight he was playing with.

“No Mommy.  This is for grown-upsters.”

“But I AM a grown-up!” I said

“No Mommy, you’re a man!”

“I’m a woman. Daddy is a man and you are a little boy.”

“No, Daddy’s a Ron.”

What’s Miles up to lately?

img_4259-1.jpgThose who know Miles know that he is either ON or OFF. Here’s a rare moment: Miles was sitting on his bed reading to himself.

He is really starting to get in to pretend play lately. The other night he gathered up all the pillows in the living room and told us that he was making sandwiches. When I reached for mine, he told me mine was in the toaster, it was too hot and it needed to cool down first.

Often in the morning, we have to “hurry up” because the “bus is coming!”

The other day as I was pulling out of the driveway to go to work, he asked me: “Mommy, you going downtown?” We don’t know where he hears this stuff.

On the way to the park this morning, he told me “Mommy you cheeky cheeky mommy!” That’s from one of his Thomas books.

Also, he has taught himself how to do somersaults perfectly and can do like a half-cartwheel. He’s the most agile kid in his gymnastics class. He was able to walk backward on the 3 foot high balance beam (while holding Ron’s hand). The other day at the park, he actually DRIBBLED a soccer ball and was able to keep it away from two almost-4 year old boys. I think we have an athlete on our hands.

His teachers at school tell me he dives head first (literally) in to the sandbox when they take the kids outside, but that what he likes to do most when he is indoors is work in the arts and crafts center. He’s so cool.

Bottle Donated!

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

This is a scan of the stamp on the letter from the Bottle BunnyMiles had his first bottle-free night last night.

On Friday, Miles received a letter from the Bottle Bunny with instructions on donating his bottle to another baby. Miles loves to get mail, plus, the Bottle Bunny said that she/he would leave him a special treat in its place, so he was game. The Bottle Bunny swung by that night to pick up the bottle Miles had left in our tree for him.  The next morning, Miles found a toy camera in its place.

While he was going to bed, Miles asked for the bottle for a few minutes, but Jess reminded him where it was and he got over it. That’s the end of the bottle. Another tiny miles-stone.

Fashion tips

I slept in a few minutes this morning while Ron served the Bear his usual morning breakfast of “oats” (as he calls it).  I came out of the bedroom wearing a shirt I haven’t worn in a long time.  The first thing Miles said to me was:

“What are these? Stripes? It’s too cold outside for this!”

Good thing I have Miles to take over the role of Jewish Grandmother since both my Grandmothers recently died.
