When things get too quiet…

Friday, June 30th, 2006

…I know Miles is up to something. I didn’t hear any noise for a minute or so. I went in to my bedroom and found Miles putting on deodorant. He did it correctly–just under his arms (and a little on his cheek). Good thing it’s the “invisi-stick” kind, though. Who wants that icky white residue all over their top?

Baby’s first joke

Friday, June 30th, 2006
Me: What do you want to eat for lunch, buddy?

Miles: Ummmm… I wanna eat Elmo! (cracks up in to hysterical giggles)

The next day:

Me: What’s your name?

Miles: Elmo! (hysterics again)

Diaper off, Daddy!

Friday, June 30th, 2006

Miles has been enjoying lots of naked time around the house lately. He told me he wanted his diaper off, so I took it off. Then he turned around to Ron and said : “Daddy diaper off!” (meaning Ron’s shorts, which he did indeed remove) and “Mommy diaper off!” I told him I wanted to leave my diaper on but thanks for thinking of me. I’m such a party-pooper.

Mini foodie

This morning I got up and started getting Miles’ breakfast ready like I always do. I didn’t ask him what he wanted today, I just started making him a blueberry-banana smoothie. I haven’t made him a smoothie in about a month and I haven’t said the word for about that long. As soon as he heard the blender he came running in to the kitchen. While clapping his hands and jumping he yelled: “Smoothie time! Smoothie time, Mommy! Smoothie time!”

St. Andrews style

Miles is starting pre-school in the fall. I’m kind of bummed, but I think it will be good for him, socially and whatnot. It’s a Montessori program and has a really nice vibe.

We toured the school a couple of times. During one of our visits, someone mentioned that the teachers change diapers with the kids standing up. That struck me as kind of funny, both as an image and logistically.

Now, to help prepare him, I often change Miles while he stands, and we have this little exchange:

Me: At St. Andrews…
Miles: …standing up!
